neyd Judo Club is affilated with the BJC (British Judo Council).  The primary object of the Club is to foster and develop the study and spirit of judo in  accordance with BJC Policy, i.e., Kodokan Judo and Kyu Shin Do Philosophy, and to afford facilities to that end.

 

This leaflet aims to provide information on the running and practices of the Club for your benefit.

 

 

 

Club Instructors and Coaches

 

Sneyd Judo Club is coached by Ron Knapper, 4th Dan, and assisted by of BJC recognised Coaches.  Ron Knapper is a qualified Judo Coach and Referee and has many years coaching experience with various Clubs.    

 

 

Gradings and Competitions

 

Sneyd Judo Club will normally have 2 gradings in any one year. Club Gradings are charged at £2 on top of usual Mat Fees.  Competitions are held at various venues, both local and nationwide throughout the year.

 

 

 Licenses

 

All practicing Judoka must possess a current BJC licence, either Full or Provisional.

 

Provisional License

New starters may opt for a Provisional License. This entitles them to insurance cover in the event of injury whilst playing Judo. Provisional licenses are valid for 3 calendar months after which time a Full License must be obtained.

 

Full License 

This entitles the holder to insurance cover in the event of injury whilst playing Judo. It also enables the holder to participate in courses, gradings and competitions.  Full licenses are valid for 12 months after which time the license must be renewed.

  

Payment of licenses  

Benefits of the Provisional License begin at point of payment.

Full Licenses are not valid until payment is received by the BJC Head Office at Stalham, Norfolk. This applies both to new applications and renewals. It is recommended that payment is made 2 - 3 weeks in advance of license expiry in order to process the application and allow for continuous insurance cover.

Family discounts and 5 year memberships are also available.

 

Venue

The Club meets at Sneyd Green Primary School, Sneyd Street, Sneyd Green, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, ST6 2NS

 

Session Times

The Club meets on a Friday evening at the following times:

    Primaries and younger Juniors:                         7:15pm to   8:30pm

    Seniors and older Juniors                   :               8:30pm to   9:45pm

Please arrive 10 minutes before the session begins.

 

Mat Fees

Mat fees are payable on the night and are:  

    Primaries, Juniors and Students                                                 £2.50

    Seniors                                                                                              £3.50

 

The first session is FREE to those new to the sport of Judo.

 

Members of 16 years of age and over are entitled to pay student rates provided they can demonstrate that they are in full time education.

 

 

Judo Suits or Judogi

 

Judo Players or Judoka are required to wear Judo Suits of Judogi.  New suits can either be purchased through the Club at discounted prices or at most Sports retailers.  A small number of second hand Judo suits are sometimes available from the Club for a small voluntary donation. Should anyone be interested in purchasing a Judo Suit please see the Club Secretary.

 

 

 

Medical

 

All parents are asked to complete a medical consent form for their child giving details of any relevant medical conditions, the name of the family Doctor and emergency contact details of parents or guardians. It is the responsibility of parents or guardians to notify the Club of any changes to these details .

 

Whilst every care is taken, Judo is a contact sport and there is a risk of injury.

 

A club member with a 1st aid certificate in Basic Life Support is in attendance at the Friday session.

 

Children’s Act

 

In order to comply with the Children Act 1989 parents are reminded that if their child is under the age of 8 years old they must attend and observe the full session.

We recommend that parents of all younger members remain on the premises during the session.

Coaches, committee members and parent helpers in direct contact with children are CRB checked every 2 years in accordance with BJC directive.

Directions & Maps

Who?

A Judo Club near the centre of Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire since 2006 with members from Newcastle-under-Lyme, Kidsgrove and Staffordshire Moorlands in addition to those from Stoke.  The Club is a member of the BJC which is affiliated to the BJA, the National Governing Body for Judo. Our coaches are fully qualified, FPJ* certified and CRB checked and a qualified first aider is present at all sessions. We welcome all members of the community, children from 5 years and adults.
